Export Manager – Air and Ocean Exports

The Freight Forwarding Air and Ocean Export Operations Manager will report to the Branch Manager. This role will oversee the Freight Forwarding Export Operations department including Air and Ocean Export. The successful candidate will have knowledge of all aspects of Freight Forwarding Export Operations and will be responsible for the overall direction and performance of the export operations department. Working closely with the Branch Manager, the Export Manager will be responsible for achieving business objectives, managing the export operations staff, and performing in a fast-paced, high-pressure freight forwarding export operations environment, while positively contributing to the success of the team. Additionally, including but not limited to:

Essential Duties and Functional Responsibilities:

Performance Management
- Meets established procedures and productivity, safety and quality standards
- Successfully leads Freight Forwarding Export Operations Team including Air and Ocean
- Supports day-to-day Export Operations as required
- Long-term planning to create initiatives that further the company’s overall goals
- Coordinating different teams to foster exchange of ideas and provide cross-team learning opportunities to ensure necessary operational results
- Counts or verifies freight for accuracy and/or damage and infestation
- Investigates and plans the most appropriate route for a shipment, considering the nature of the goods, cost, transit time and security
- Negotiates contracts, transportation and handling costs
- Obtains, checks and/or prepares all transportation documentation to meet Customs and insurance requirements, packing specifications, and compliance with local and international regulations
- Liaises with third parties to move goods (by road, rail, air or sea) in accordance with customer requirements
- Arranges air transport for urgent and high-value freight and manages the risk door to door
- Arranges courier and specialist hand-carry services
- Coordinates US Customs Brokerage to guide the freight efficiently through complex procedures export procedures
- Performs job duties onsite at designated work facility
- Ability to travel both domestically and internationally as business needs dictate
Communications
- Maintains communication and control through all phases of the journey, including the production of management reports and statistics
- Maintains current knowledge of relevant legislation, political situations and other factors that could affect the movement of freight
- Manages multiple customers across the globe coordinating shipments between multiple carriers and modes of transportation
- Knowledge of state, federal and international applicable laws and regulations as they relate to primary services provided (i.e. Customs, Security, other export & export government agencies)

Finance
- Reviews weekly Accounts Receivable Reports and communicate status to Branch Manager
Training
- Trains and develops Export Operations Air and Ocean teams
- Creates and maintains Standard Operating Procedures for Export Operations
Collaboration
- Works closely with HR Department and Branch Manager concerning recruitment, corrective action process and performance review process
- Works closely with customers, colleagues and third parties to ensure smooth operations to deadlines
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Manager

Supervisory Responsibility:

Preferred Qualifications, Required Knowledge Skills & Abilities and Working Conditions
Previous Work Experience
- Minimum of 5 year freight forwarding industry experience
- 3 years supervisor experience
Education and Certifications
- High School diploma or general education degree (GED)
- Equivalent work experience will be considered

Work Environment:
A two-thirds percentage of work time is spent in an office setting where the environment is climate controlled with the other one-third of work time is spent in the warehouse where the environment is not climate controlled.
